Pilates classes at Windsor Pilates Studio incorporate matwork exercises, which can be performed with no equipment or with the addition of small equipment(Swiss Balls/Stability Rolls/Therabands) and exercises using the large equipment (Reformers/Towers/Chair).  By using springs the large equipment can work the body dynamically adding resistance to increase strength and at the same time develop flexibility and stability in the body.

History of Pilates.

Joseph Pilates and Student.

The name Pilates comes from the founder of the method Joseph Pilates.  Born in 1880 he was influenced by yoga, gymnastics, boxing, martial arts and Eastern and Western Philosophies.  Pilates guiding philosophy was that to achive good health and happiness the body and mind must be addressed together.  Over his lifetime Pilates developed more than 600 exercises  on various pices of apparatus that he also invented. 

Modern Pilates.

Modern Pilates incorporates an up to date knowledge of the moving body, Taking onboard current research in training and rehabilitating the body.
